Compass is run by volunteer law students, who do not have a license to practice law, and we are therefore unable to provide legal advice or act as lawyers. Law students are not members of the Barreau du Québec.

Our volunteers do not provide legal advice; they only provide information. We are thus unable to review contract language, help develop contracts, review tax forms, fill out incorporation documents, etc. However, we are more than happy to provide information on these topics which can help you develop and review your own contracts/forms/etc.

We would be glad to refer our clients to lawyers if needed.

Legal information is general knowledge about the state of the law, whereas legal advice is an interpretation of the state of the law as it applies to a particular situation. As volunteer law students, we can only provide legal information.

No. As the legal clinic is set up in Canada, our caseworkers can only provide legal information related to the Canadian market. However, if you have questions related to your case that deviate into other jurisdictions, some caseworkers may agree to take this on.
