  • Can you provide legal advice? Can you be my lawyer?

    Compass is run by volunteer law students, who do not have a license to practice law, and we are therefore unable to provide legal advice or act as lawyers. Law students are not members of the Barreau du Québec.

     

    However, we would be glad to refer our clients to lawyers if needed.

    What is the difference between legal information and legal advice?

    Legal information is general knowledge about the state of the law, whereas legal advice is an interpretation of the state of the law as it applies to a particular situation. Here at Compass, we can only provide legal information.

    Does Compass offer help outside of Canada?

    No. As the legal clinic is set up in Canada, our caseworkers can only provide legal information related to the Canadian market. However, if you have questions related to your case that deviate into other jurisdictions, some caseworkers may agree to take this on.
